Terry Pratchett was Capclave’s surprise guest…

We were unexpectedly honored by a visit from Sir Terry Pratchett, who was in Washington D.C. on tour, and graciously agreed to stop by Capclave for an hour on his way to the airport and back to the U.K.

To a fully packed room, Sir Terry talked about various things, including his new book, Snuff, as well as his BBC documentary on assisted death. Two selections from Snuff were read to the audience. Photos from the event will be forthcoming as they are collated and turned in. However, for your listening pleasure, here is an MP3 recording taken of the event. Please note that the volume is rather low, and the quality is variable. But still, Enjoy!

Capclave is reviving the The Interplanetary Cookie Conspiracy

Men are from Mars, women are from Venus, but they all love cookies no matter what planet they are on. WSFA encourages fans with warm hearts and warm ovens to make cookies for hospitality at meetings and at our conventions. While this has the flavor of a conspiracy, it’s really social networking through many munchy flavors.

This tradition goes back at least to the 1970s, and was motivated in part by the club’s low budget. People could, of course, purchase commercial cookies if they found cooking too intimidating. But home-baked cookies definitely are preferred as tastier and more sincere. Brownies, blondies, and fudge are also welcome additions!

So Bring your cookie to the hospitality suite. Please include a list of ingredients to be left by the cookies so fans with allergies will not have to guess if they can eat them.
